Digital terrestrial TV
The Swedish Radio and Television Authority shall issue all licences to broadcast television other than public service radio and television (SVT & UR). The applicants have to present their financial situation and technical qualifications. In addition, a programming declaration must be included in the application. The Authority shall also assess the applicant’s willingness to cooperate with other licensees concerning technical matters.
Sweden has made the switch from analogue to digital terrestrial TV broadcasts. In 2003 the Swedish Parliament decided that analogue terrestrial broadcasts will be switched off in Sweden by 1 February 2008, after being phased out gradually. The Digital TV Commission had the task of coordinating and spreading information on the transition to digital TV broadcasts in Sweden. Read more about the transition in The final report from the digital TV Commission.
