Swedish Radio and TV Authority

 

The Swedish Radio and TV Authority is a national authority for the media sector. The Authority reports to the Ministry of Culture and is headed by a Director-General. 

The Authority grants licences for digital terrestrial television, local and community radio broadcasting, and issues publishing licences for databases. The Authority also issues regulations on television standards and exercises a supervisory role in this area.

The Authority monitors developments in the media field. This means that the Authority publishes statistics and other relevant information on the media field.

The Authority registers responsible editor and designations of radio and television broadcasters in Sweden. Satellite, cable, web radio and web TV broadcasters register their activities with the Authority. Radio newspapers and listings magazines are also registered. 

The Swedish Radio and TV Authority deals with matters concerning fees for local commercial radio.
